 At least 27 students were taken ill due to food poisoning reported in two separate hostels in Telangana on Wednesday. In Suryapet district headquarters, five students fell sick at the tribal welfare girls’ hostel after having lunch. They complained of severe vomiting and visited a nearby Urban Health Centre around 1 pm. Despite seeking medical attention, their condition did not improveThe hostel authorities shifted them to a private hospital by 4 pm. After receiving treatment, their health was reported stable. Though the incident occurred at 1 pm, parents were not informed till evening. Details regarding the hospital where the students were treated were not disclosed to them, leading to confusion and concern. While officials reported that only one student had a fever and was given a tablet, some students disclosed that others were taken to a private hospital for treatment. The incidents drew the attention of Tribal Welfare Officer Shankar, who reviewed the health status of the students. Parents questioned the authorities at the hospital, expressing their dissatisfaction with the food quality provided in the hostel. In a separate incident, 22 students at a hostel in Dhanwada, Narayanpet district, fell ill due to food poisoning. Further details are awaited.

At least 18 passengers sustained injuries — several of them critically — when a private luxury bus rammed into a truck on National Highway 167 between Narsireddypally and Jakler villages in Telangana’s Narayanpet district during the early hours of Thursday. The ill-fated bus was travelling from Shivamogga in Karnataka to Hyderabad with 29 passengers on board when the accident occurred. According to police, the front portion of the bus was completely mangled due to the force of the collision. Preliminary investigation suggests that the bus, which was allegedly speeding, crashed into the rear of a truck that was moving in the same direction. All the injured were initially administered first aid at the Makthal government hospital and later shifted to hospitals in Raichur and Mahabubnagar for further treatment. Among the critically injured is the bus driver. Meanwhile, the truck driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

The women-run petrol pump in Dhanwada in Telangana’s Narayanpet district stands as a symbol of hard work, perseverance, determination and confidence of a group of women. This is the state’s first fuel station that is fully operated by women. These women, who were once ordinary homemakers and handled agricultural work, are now successfully running a fuel station with dignity and respect, gaining people’s trust and earning a reputation of providing good services. The pump is operated by the members of the Narayanpet District Women’s Federation. From filling fuel to cashier and manager, the entire staff are women. Their story goes back to a year ago when the federation, comprising thousands of members, caught the attention of the then collector and District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) officials. A meeting was convened with the federation members and they were asked if they would run a petrol pump. The members agreed and with this, 726 yards land was allotted on the Narayanpet main road and it was registered under DRDA. After this, an agreement was signed with the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and federation president Chandrakala and secretary Anita along with seven women from different parts of the district came forward to run the petrol pump. They underwent a month-long training at the fuel station in Dhanwada and the petrol pump was opened in February 2025 by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Five persons including three women were killed on the spot and two others were injured in a ghastly road accident that took place near Jakler village of Makhtal mandal in Narayanpet district, about 160 kilometres from here on Sunday evening. The victims included the wife and daughter of an Indian Navy employee, reports reaching here said. A Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) posted in Narayanpet district, Telangana was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 to complete official work. According to reports, the officer had sought money from a person for processing a government-related matter. The ACB officials conducted a trap operation and caught the officer while accepting the alleged bribe amount. Following the arrest, a case was registered and further investigation was initiated by the authorities. The incident has drawn attention toward the importance of transparency and accountability in public administration. The ACB continues its investigation to gather more details regarding the case and the officer’s involvement.
